Durability of Slippery Liquid-Infused Surfaces: Challenges and Advances

چکیده

Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) have emerged as a unique approach to creating that can resist fouling when placed in contact with aqueous media, organic fluids, or biological organisms. These are composed of essentially two components: liquid lubricant is locked within the protrusions textured solid due capillarity. Drops, immiscible lubricant, exhibit high mobility and very-low-contact-angle hysteresis on such surfaces. Moreover, these shown adhesion wide range withstand pressure, able self-clean. Due remarkable properties, SLIPS considered promising candidate for applications designing anti-fouling anti-corrosion surfaces, drag reduction, fluid manipulation. collective however, only available long remains infused surface protrusions. A number mechanisms drive depletion from interior texture, leading loss functionality SLIPS. Lubricant one challenge hindering real-world application This review mainly focuses studies conducted context enhancing retention abilities In addition, concise introduction wetting transitions structured well given. We also discuss, briefly, responsible depletion.

Inhibition of ice nucleation by slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS).

Ice repellent coatings have been studied and keenly sought after for many years, where any advances in the durability of such coatings will result in huge energy savings across many fields. Progress in creating anti-ice and anti-frost surfaces has been particularly rapid since the discovery and development of slippery, liquid infused porous surfaces (SLIPS). Here we use SLIPS-coated differentia...

Direct observation of drops on slippery lubricant-infused surfaces.

For a liquid droplet to slide down a solid planar surface, the surface usually has to be tilted above a critical angle of approximately 10°. By contrast, droplets of nearly any liquid "slip" on lubricant-infused textured surfaces - so termed slippery surfaces - when tilted by only a few degrees. The mechanism of how the lubricant alters the static and dynamic properties of the drop remains elus...

Robust liquid-infused surfaces through patterned wettability.

Liquid-infused surfaces display advantageous properties that are normally associated with conventional gas-cushioned superhydrophobic surfaces. However, the surfaces can lose their novel properties if the infused liquid drains from the surface. We explore how drainage due to gravity or due to an external flow can be prevented through the use of chemical patterning. A small area of the overall s...

Self-cleaning and antibiofouling enamel surface by slippery liquid-infused technique

We aimed to create a slippery liquid-infused enamel surface with antibiofouling property to prevent dental biofilm/plaque formation. First, a micro/nanoporous enamel surface was obtained by 37% phosphoric acid etching. The surface was then functionalized by hydrophobic low-surface energy heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetra- hydrodecyltrichlorosilane. Subsequent infusion of fluorocarbon lubricants (Fl...

Controlled electro-coalescence/non-coalescence on lubricating fluid infused slippery surfaces

Aqueous drops on silicone oil infused lubricating surfaces are cloaked with a thin layer of oil to minimize their surface energy. These oil cloaked aqueous drops exhibit pseudo-stable coalescence or spontaneous coalescence depending upon the lubricating oil thickness which controls the interaction point of the drops. For thick oil films, drops interact with each other through the surrounding oi...
